Spring is nearly upon us and despite the disappointment of the Ashes over the winter, many of us will be pulling on ‘The Whites’ and enjoying another long cricket season.

The start of the season often corresponds with the highest risk of injury. Relatively dormant soft tissue (muscle, tendon etc.) structures are returned to high levels of load. Bowling, throwing, squatting in the field, all requires a load tolerance level. As we repeatedly exercise our tissue gradually builds up this load tolerance. If we do not load up tissue for a period it’s load tolerance will drop.
In professional cricket we constantly manage the load tolerance of players to decrease spikes in loads and reduce injury risks.
Gym work to strengthen/load soft tissue prior to returning to practise and play. A gradual re-introduction of bowling loads and throwing loads will help assist you return pain free to cricket this spring and hopefully have a long injury free season.

Having had experience with not only South Australian but Australian and English cricket teams, our Physio's have a keen interest in injury prevention.
