Augusta Day 1

Practise Day 1

After a teasing day outside the course yesterday it was a dream come true to enter the gates of Augusta National Golf Course today. Someone explained to me that it is the happiest place in the world and they weren’t wrong. For most of the crowd this is the day that they have finally crossed a major wish of their bucket wish. Everybody has a smile from ear to ear, including the multitude of staff.

The course, buildings and general ambiance are truly breathtaking.

Due to our player Asia Pacific Amateur winner Antonio Murdaca not teeing off for an hour or so. Matt Cutler Golf Australia’s High Performance Manager who had been to Augusta before gave me a quick tour.

Amen corner, the 16th and then over the back to the Par 3 course. All jaw droppingly beautiful, greener than green and perfectly manicured.

Then Antonio teed off, briefly playing with Jason Day before continuing on his own. Having worked with Antonio for over 5 years it was with great pride that I watched him and his coach Gareth Jones (acting as his caddie for this tournament) stroll the famous turf as Antonio did his thing. He only played the back nine today. He has nine organised on the front nine with former World No.1 Lee Westwood tomorrow. Then it was off to the range as he took his place in between former champions and the world’s elite on Augusta’s incredible practise facilities.

Loved every inch of Augusta I saw today and can’t wait for more tomorrow.
