Augusta Day 3

Wednesday 9th April

Par 3 Day

Another great day at Augusta (is there a bad one?). I drove in with Antonio this morning so got to drive down Magnolia Lane rather than having to park in the Caddie Park as we have on previous days.
Enjoyed watching Antonio play the back nine again today this time by himself. He had plenty of time to practice different options for approach shots and played around on the greens practicing to the various likely hole positions.
He hit great 2nd shots into the Par 5 15th giving himself Eagle putts and a tee shot within 6 feet on the Par 3 16th, which brought the large crowd assembled there to their feet. There is a great tradition on the 16th that on practice days players walk to the front of the tee and try to deliberately skim one off the water onto the green. Antonio tried this 2 days ago and just fell short, today he got a huge roar as his ball skipped across the water up onto the green.I know he enjoyed it!
Then it was over to the Par 3 course for the Par 3 competition. We used our early entrance this morning to reserve plum positions on the edge of the 6th green where we could also see the 4th and 5th greens.
Another great Masters tradition is that on Par 3 day players often use their wifes, girlfriends, children or other family or friends as their caddie. Rory McIlroy had Niall from One Direction whom thanks to having young daughters I embarrassingly recognised.
Antonio had his father who was beaming with pride from ear to ear as he has rightfully been all week. Great tradition!
Lots of famous current and past players came through but seeing Jack Nicklaus hit his first hole-in-one at Augusta was a great moment.
Tomorrow the real stuff starts. Antonio has already gone to bed seemingly relaxed,he’s been hitting it great all week but ITS THE MASTERS!!! I’m nervous even if he’s not. I’m sure he’ll do well.
